Protecting rights to participation
We're passionate about the role that outdoor learning, education and adventure can play for young people in Scotland.
The wilderness environments in Scotland are the perfect landscape for young people to learn about themselves. And we're determined to protect their ability to access this for future generations.
Here's the latest from Outward Bound Scotland.
Save your outdoor centres
Scotland’s outdoor education sector came together in 2020 to issue a call to the Scottish Government. Outdoor residential centres were unable to operate as normal due to COVID-19. It was projected that without support, 50% of them would close and be lost forever. This would have a catastrophic effect on the chances of Scottish children being able to attend an outdoor residential in the future.
90% of young Scots who come to Outward Bound need financial help to make it possible.
Many come from deprived inner-cities such as Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen where opportunities to experience the outdoors are severely limited. Others come from rural communities with challenges around social isolation and employability. This report looks at the outcomes and benefits they experience after being on an Outward Bound programme.
"Be valued because of who you are - not just what you do"
British cyclist Mark Beaumont talks about the importance of young people having aspirations.
