Imagine spending 19-days of your July or August in the wild. Amongst people and places that will change your outlook on life.
Where you'll try your hand at rock climbing, camping and canoeing, but also train your mind so that you can find, set and achieve your ambitions!
What are you waiting for? This is your opportunity to prove to yourself and the world what you're capable of!
Comfort zones are a wonderful place, but you know what else is wonderful? Going on adventures with new people you've never met before in unfamiliar and stunning surroundings that may scare you, but also inspire you. The mountains are where you belong.
When did you last catch a bus or a train without knowing the destination? In all likelihood, never. Yet so many people do this with their career, education and life, why? Because they haven't found their goal yet. Our instructors will help you avoid this pitfall, by coaching and mentoring you so that you realise your true potential.
Arguably the most important element of all, what use are jaw-dropping mountains and inspirational mentors without mates for you to enjoy it all with? Meeting people from across the country and around the world (not just from where you're from) will give you the confidence to speak up and provide you with memories and stories to last a lifetime.
You can experience all of this and more through the wilderness challenge of the Skills for Life Award.
|Apply for funding|

That means if you're living in Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan you can apply.
The deadline for summer 2019 funding is 6 May, but you may also apply for summer 2020 funding after this date.
Manchester Unlimited is an alternative way to get involved in the Outward Bound Skills for Life Award in summer 2019 or 2020. Just as there are many different routes to getting a degree or a job, we've created a pathway specifically geared for the youth of Greater Manchester.
Made possible by the Big Lottery Fund, the project has been specifically designed to help break-down financial barriers which may otherwise prevent you from taking part.
Why? Because as part of our strategic vision for 2020: The Mountains are Calling, we've committed to helping hundreds more young people achieve the Outward Bound Skills for Life Award. As a charity we believe passionately in improving young peoples life chances for the better, and this is just one way we are trying to achieve it.
The Outward Bound Skills for Life Award is unlike any other summer camp in the country.
First things first, it's not about quad biking, archery or other in-grounds activities. It's about going on a breath-taking journey across land and water, amid some of the UK's most spectacular and remote places, with the most amazing people. From rowing across lakes and camping in the wild, to lighting fires and building shelters, wilderness challenge will be at the heart of everything you do.
The Award runs from the end June, throughout July and August to the start of September. It takes 19 days to complete and is based from one of our 3 centres: Aberdovey (North Wales), Loch Eil (Scottish Highlands) and Ullswater (Lake District, England) - the choice is yours.
Whichever centre you choose the Skills for Life Award will leave you feeling more confident, more determined and better prepared for the challenges of life.
The Skills for Life Award is worth £1,699 and is all-inclusive.
But here's the deal: To you, the wonderful people of Greater Manchester, it can be less - potentially much less. You just have to explain to us why you need the cash.
Manchester Unlimited and the Skills for Life Award is all about defying limitations, whether they be financial or otherwise we want to know about it in your application.
Funding is limited and may be restricted to specific dates so we recommend that you apply as early as possible. Remember! The deadline for summer 2019 is 23:59 on Monday 6 May 2018
If money is not a limiting factor you can also sign up by booking directly on our Skills for Life Award page.
