TCS London Marathon

Applications for charity places in the 2024 London Marathon are now closed.

Already have a place in the ballot? Click 'I’ve got a ballot place' and use your place to run for us.

I've got a Ballot Place

If you've got a ballot place, you can still join Team OB to raise money to get young people outdoors.

Why run for us?

The Outward Bound Trust is a charity with a difference. Our mission is to help young people to defy their limitations through learning and adventure in the wild.

Over 25,000 young people come on an Outward Bound programme every year. We use the mountains, lakes and rivers on our doorsteps to develop skills such as confidence, self-motivation and resilience. Skills that young people need to succeed in education, work and throughout their life.

You can help us

With 1 in 10 young people aged 16-25 in the UK not in education, employment or training our work has never been more important.

Join #TeamOB and run the TCS London Marathon for Outward Bound. You can help us to change young people's lives for the better.

If you have any questions please email us.

FAQs
When will I hear if I’m successful in securing a charity place with you?

We will be reviewing applications on a regular basis. You will hear the outcome of your application within 10 working days of submitting your application.

How much would I need to raise?

As a charity place runner there is a minimum sponsorship of £2,400 (excluding Gift Aid).

What happens if I don’t reach my target?

We know that committing to raise a specific amount can seem a bit daunting which is why we’re here to help every step of the way. If you have a place with us and are struggling with your fundraising, then please do get in touch. We have lots of experience with fundraising and can give you some great advice, tips, and fundraising materials to help you smash your target.

Why do I have to commit to a minimum fundraising amount – surely any money I raise should be enough?

Each charity place at an event represents an important and valuable source of fundraising for us. As we have made an investment to be able to offer places at events, we therefore ask each applicant to pledge to raise a minimum level of sponsorship if they subsequently take part in an event.

Will there be a deadline to raise the £2,400?

You don’t have to raise the full amount until 1 month after the event day. We know a lot of donations come in on the week of and after the event. So there is still plenty of time to plan your fundraising and collect any final donations.

How do I set up and online fundraising page?

Once you have your place secured (either confirmation of a charity place with us, or through the general ballot), then the next step is to confirm your registration on the race organiser’s portal, where a fundraising page with the official fundraising partner Enthuse will automatically be set up for you. We recommend spending a little more time personalising your page with your story, images, and target.

Can I raise money with my friend?

Yes. If you both get charity places you would need to raise a minimum of £4,800 combined (excluding Gift Aid). Don’t forget to let us know who you’ll be fundraising with so that we can link your fundraising together.

“It felt like being a part of the family. It was great being able to speak directly to and support other runners on the team whilst we were all training. I'm sure lots of us will keep in contact moving forwards.”
