Celebrating 80 years of Outward Bound
On 4 October 1941 the first Outward Bound course began in Aberdovey. Co-founded by Lawrence Holt and Kurt Hahn, their mission was to save the lives of young seaman directly threatened in World War II. Since then, over 1.2 million young people in the UK have taken part in one of our learning and adventure programmes.
In 2021 we find ourselves in an entirely different type of war against a very different enemy. Once again young people need Outward Bound, to help them develop the resilience, confidence and determination to overcome the challenges ahead of them.
