Berghaus are a team of people united by their passion for the outdoors. They want more people to explore, experience and share the outdoors, because of the positive effects this can bring to both physical and mental health. Outward Bound have been one of their chosen charities since 2006 and we’re proud to have worked together on some incredibly successful projects to encourage more young people to get outdoors.
We have over 140 instructors at Outward Bound and we are open for business 50 weeks of the year. It might seem obvious, but to lead outdoor adventures in the wildest places of the UK you need some pretty amazing kit. Berghaus have been our official kit provider since 2006, supplying our instructors with branded clothing and waterproofs. We’ve also helped Berghaus during product development, with our instructor teams actively involved in testing new clothing, rucksacks and footwear before they are signed off for production.
Berghaus are determined to redefine modern exploration and have the support of some passionate athletes to help them on this mission.
Sir Chris Bonington is one of the UK’s most famous climbers. He is Deputy Patron of The Outward Bound Trust and a Berghaus athlete and ambassador. It was through this network that we met Leo Houlding. Leo is a modern British adventurer, a fellow Berghaus athlete and thanks to the introduction to Outward Bound, now also one of our Trustees.
Sir Chris and Leo’s involvement with Outward Bound strengthens our partnership and our shared aim to encourage more young people to experience adventure in the outdoors.
Supporting their local community
Berghaus have been based in the North East since their launch in 1966. Their links to the local community are strong. They now provide financial assistance to enable disadvantaged young people from their local community to experience the power of exploration in the wild through their own Outward Bound programme.
