robert jack - Ullswater, The Lake District, 2001

As a apprentice fitter, turner I was asked by my boss, would you like to go to an outward bound course in Ullswater, I said yes , I was one of five children brought up in a small mining village, and had never been away from my family in my life, I arrived at Penrith railway station, a bit peely wally, but with a great resolve to do myself proud, this I achieved by leading a patrol to do the three thousander I arrived back at Edinburgh Waverley, a month later to be met by my dad, I was a lovely brown colour, with a shirt and a outward bound tie on , i went away a boy , but I can still remember him saying, I think its about time you and me went for a wee pint son, many thanks to Whymper U 129
