Richard Rimes - Eskdale, The Lake District, 1962

Course E127 Slingsby Watch November 1962.
I can remember getting off at Ravenglass from our Steam Locomotive hauling our coaches from changing at Crewe. The course started looking back at my course book 20th. November , our project was the Coniston Slate Mine where there was a mock up of a wall that Coventry Cathedral would have installed in the brilliant Green Slate. We had our daily Cold shower before cleaning our dorm before breakfast during our month we did a steeple chase round the tarn in fron of the school , curcuit training , burma bridge and other rope works. A 3day hike in the snow sleeping under bivoraks ( chilly !! )
Rock Climbing , summits Great Gable , Scarfell Pike. The experience has left a lasting memory and a love for the Lakes ever since.
