Scotland's Next Generation

Life-changing outdoor adventure for young people who need it most.

Not every young person gets the same start in life. For some, family circumstances, caring responsibilities or time in care mean fewer chances to build confidence, friendships and life skills.

That’s where Scotland’s Next Generation comes in.

Each year, with your support, Outward Bound gives 14 to 17 year olds from across Scotland the chance to step away from daily pressures and discover what they are capable of. They hike, climb, scramble and camp in the wilds of the Highlands. They face challenges that build resilience, spark self-belief and create lifelong memories.

Who is it for?

Scotland's Next Generation is for young people aged 14-17 years old from anywhere in Scotland. These young folk would like to take part in an Outward Bound experience but need financial support to be able to.

They'll need some stamina and a basic level of fitness as there are lots of outdoor adventures during the course.

The young person must meet one of the following criteria: Disadvantaged (would not have the financial means to pay for the experience), A young carer, or care-experienced

What will they do?

They’ll join either a 7-day Ridge Adventure or a 14-day Summit Adventure at our Loch Eil Centre in the Highlands, depending on their experience. Before the course, they meet their instructor and course mentor to prepare. The mentor also supports them after the course.

Parents and guardians can nominate a young person, with a teacher as referee, just fill out the form below to start the process.

How can you help

Nominate a young person
If you know someone who would benefit, you can nominate them. Teachers, youth workers, parents and carers can all put forward a nomination.

A full scholarship costs £1,700. Every donation, large or small, helps make this opportunity possible. As a donor, you’ll receive updates, a thank you from the young person you’ve supported, and a chance to see the impact for yourself.
