Every week at Outward Bound, we see something extraordinary...

A young person reaching beyond what they thought they were capable of.

Someone who supports their teammates through a challenge they didn’t think they could face.

A quiet moment of courage that changes everything.

We created The Outward Bound Award to recognise those moments. To celebrate the individuals who show resilience, growth, and leadership during their time with us and to shine a light on the power of outdoor education to change lives.

What is The Outward Bound Award?

The Outward Bound Award is a new, national award celebrating the personal journeys of young people who’ve shown something special during their time on an Outward Bound course. It might be courage, quiet strength, teamwork or determination. Whatever form it takes, this award is about recognising real growth—the kind that happens outside the classroom, and often outside comfort zones.

We’re inviting teachers, group leaders, parents and others to nominate a young person who took on the challenge, grew through it, and left inspired—and inspiring.

What does the winner receive?

One standout nominee will receive:

  • An inspiring guest speaker at their school assembly
  • £300 worth of adventure gear to fuel their next journey
  • And most importantly, a moment to be celebrated for who they’ve become

We’ll work with the winning young person, their school and family to make this a moment to remember and a story to share with others across the UK.

How to nominate

Anyone who has seen a young person take part in an Outward Bound course with their school or youth group in 2024 or 2025 can nominate.
The nomination process is simple and open until 31 May 2025.

Nominate now

If you’ve seen someone grow through adventure, now’s your chance to help them be recognised.

Why this matters

At Outward Bound, we believe that every young person has untapped potential—and that real growth happens through experience. This award is more than recognition. It’s about showing the world what young people can achieve when given the right environment, the right support, and the chance to stretch themselves.

Thank you for helping us celebrate the next generation of adventurers, leaders and changemakers.
