Why Running the London Marathon with Outward Bound Matters

There’s something unforgettable about that moment: feet pounding, heart racing, and the roar of thousands of voices urging you towards that finish line.

The London Marathon isn't just a race, it's a journey of resilience, triumph, and self-discovery. And for Team Outward Bound, it’s also about transforming lives.

In 2025, over 100 remarkable individuals laced up their trainers, proudly wearing our name, raising an extraordinary £200,000 (and counting) to empower young people through outdoor residential experiences. They trained through wind, rain, and early-morning alarms, embodying exactly what Outward Bound stands for: pushing limits, embracing challenges, and discovering strength in perseverance.

Stories from the road

Take Emily, a teacher from Manchester, who first came to Outward Bound through her students.

Seeing firsthand how outdoor adventures helped my pupils grow in confidence inspired me to run. Every mile was a reminder that our fundraising creates real change.

Or James, who hadn’t run since school but was determined to honour his nephew’s Outward Bound experience.

Watching him return from his programme stronger, happier, and more confident gave me purpose. Running became a symbol of our shared journey. One step at a time, always forward.

These are the stories behind every marathon vest - the triumph of personal battles and collective impact.

Looking ahead to 2026

With places in high demand, next year we'll have fewer guaranteed charity spots—but the chance to make a difference remains unlimited. If you don't secure one of our limited charity entries, you can still transform your ballot place into an opportunity to support young people’s growth.

Whether you join through a charity or ballot place, you'll be running with purpose. You'll become part of something bigger—part of a legacy that champions courage, resilience, and the power of adventure.

Take your first step

Running the London Marathon with Outward Bound isn’t just about reaching the finish line; it’s about the impact you'll leave behind. It’s about embracing challenge and turning personal triumph into life-changing opportunities for the next generation.

Will you join us on this extraordinary journey?
