Operations Director Graeme Muir, was very interested to find out more about The Outward Bound Trust's work in Scotland, as his current role involves working with young people through the NVT apprenticeship scheme.
Graeme accepted The Trust's invitation to visit Loch Eil on the 9th of August to experience firsthand the impact of NVT's support. During the course of the evening, Graeme talked to Loch Eil instructors and the Head of Centre, but most importantly, he was able to listen to the experiences of some of the participants who that day finished their 3 week Classic or Ultimate Adventures.
"Many of the young people we employ as apprentices lack confidence and don’t have the necessary soft-skills, such a communication skills. We have been talking internally about what we can do to help them acquire such skills to make them more effective in the early stages of their apprenticeships".
“That evening was a real eye-opener to me”, explains Graeme. “It was clear that their Outward Bound experience made an enormous impact on the participants, and it was fantastic to hear directly from the young people how their courses changed them, gave them confidence and a sense of direction in life. I was impressed that they communicated their thoughts so clearly and confidently and we are glad that with our donation this year we have helped one more young person to achieve this.”
