Mountains

Comfort zones are a wonderful place, but you know what else is wonderful? Going on adventures with new people you've never met before in unfamiliar and stunning surroundings that may scare you, but also inspire you. The mountains are where you belong.

Mentors

When did you last catch a bus or a train without knowing the destination? In all likelihood, never. Yet so many people do this with their career, education and life, why? Because they haven't found their goal yet. Our instructors will help you avoid this pitfall, by coaching and mentoring you so that you realise your true potential.

Mates

Arguably the most important element of all, what use are jaw-dropping mountains and inspirational mentors without mates for you to enjoy it all with? Meeting people from across the country and around the world (not just from where you're from) will give you the confidence to speak up and provide you with memories and stories to last a lifetime.

Is Serious Adventure for me?
You don’t have to be super fit to take part in Serious Adventure, but the days are packed with activity and will be physically challenging. You should also be prepared to carry your rucksack on overnight expedition. Therefore, a reasonable level of fitness is required but more importantly, you’ll need plenty of enthusiasm and determination to take on new challenges. You should also be open to new experiences and able to get along with other young people from a variety of backgrounds.

What will I get out of it?
Besides some pretty impressive outdoor skills, you’ll also learn about leadership, working in a team and communication - the sort of stuff that looks great on a CV or college application. You’ll meet people from all over the world to continue your adventures with! Best of all, you’ll have a fantastic sense of achievement, having conquered a brand new challenge.

What is the Aberdovey centre like?
You'll be staying in single sex dorms with 6-10 people of your own age. Most dorms also have en-suite facilities. You'll find venue information and photographs of Aberdovey here.

What about smoking?
Participants under 16 are not permitted to smoke. We strongly discourage smoking. If you must smoke, your instructor will show you a designated smoking area. Smoking is not permitted on activities or on expedition. In addition consumption of alcohol is banned at all centres.

What weather can we expect?
Although the course takes place in summer, it is based predominantly in mountainous areas where weather can be unpredictable. At times a sense of humour will be required!
