The Annington Challenge

Financial support for young people living in Service communities.

Annington 1

Are you aged 13-19, from a Service family and looking for an adventure this summer?

The Annington Challenge, run in conjunction with The Outward Bound Trust, gives young people from military families the chance to tackle their very own Outward Bound adventure.*

*See our FAQ at the bottom of the page for more information on eligibility.

The Annington Challenge

Take control of your summer and experience an Outward Bound® summer adventure, part funded by The Annington Trust (up to 90%).

You'll have the choice of one of two paths: Serious Adventure (7-days) or the more challenging Skills for Life Award (19-days). From the moment you arrive you'll be immersed in spectacular scenery. Rowing across lakes and camping in the wild to lighting fires and building shelters, outdoor adventure will be at the heart of everything you do.

Applicants will need the support of their school or college, and if chosen Challengers must be prepared to write a short report on their Annington Challenge.

The Annington Trust

The Annington Trust was established in 1996 to support families living in Service communities. Since 2012 The Trust has sponsored over 162 young people on an Outward Bound adventure in Scotland, England and Wales.

The Annington Challenge gives young people (aged 13-19) an opportunity to experience a real adventure and return home with new-found confidence, team work skills and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Am I eligible for funding?

To be eligible applicants must be a UK passport holder, be aged between 13-19 at time of participation and have a family member serving with the Army, Navy or Air Force.  You will need the support of your school and college who will be contacted to discuss your application.

If you're not sure if you're eligible we recommend applying anyway as we may have alternative funding available, so it's still worth registering!

How much is the funding worth?

Funding is typically granted at a rate of up to 90%. We ask that participants taking part in a 19 day Skills for Life Award (worth £1,699) fundraise £399 and those taking part in a Serious Adventure (worth £549) fundraise £50 towards the cost.

What happens after I register?

You will be contacted by The Outward Bound Trust to discuss your eligibility. Eligible registrants may then be required to complete a short application form before their place can be confirmed.

What will happen to my personal data/details?

The Outward Bound Trust will retain your information for marketing purposes and to share other potential funding opportunities regarding our summer adventures with you. We will not share it with any other organisations.
