Welcome NCS grads!
Enjoyed the adventure phase of NCS? You ain't seen nothing yet! Outward Bound will inspire you to do more than you ever thought possible with just three simple ingredients...
Comfort zones are a wonderful place, but you know what else is wonderful? Going on adventures with new people you've never met before in unfamiliar and stunning surroundings that may scare you, but also inspire you. The mountains are where you belong.
When did you last catch a bus or a train without knowing the destination? In all likelihood, never. Yet so many people do this with their career, education and life, why? Because they haven't found their goal yet. Our instructors will help you avoid this pitfall, by coaching and mentoring you so that you realise your true potential.
Arguably the most important element of all, what use are jaw-dropping mountains and inspirational mentors without mates for you to enjoy it all with? Meeting people from across the country and around the world (not just from where you're from) will give you the confidence to speak up and provide you with memories and stories to last a lifetime.
You can experience all of this and more through the wilderness challenge of the Skills for Life Award.
Variety is the spice of life
It may sound like something your dad would say whilst buying a different flavour of crisps, but it's true! Last summer 30% of our participants were from overseas; bringing culture, variety and an international twist to our adventures that few others can offer.
Instructors that are the top of their game
Think about it, your doctor or dentist didn't land where they were, they worked hard to get there. Our instructors are no differenet. Passionate in a particular field, their skills include climbing, paddling, navigation and teaching. What's more is that they're there for you from day 1 right through to day 19.
Discover wild places and try new things
We're not talking about in-grounds activities like archery, or jumping in a canoe just for the heck of it. You'll go on two expeditions, where everything will have its purpose, so if you're rowing somewhere or climbing up something you can be sure it's part of a much bigger journey.
Our founder, Kurt Hahn spoke out against Hitler and the Nazis before being exiled to the UK and founding Outward Bound with Lawrence Holt. Since then, we’ve had over 75 years of experience in inspiring young people so that they are ready for the challenges of life. By going on an Outward Bound adventure you’ll become part of that story and our 1.2 million alumni.

The Outward Bound Skills for Life Award is unlike any other summer camp in the country.
First of all, it's not about quad biking, archery or other in-grounds activities. It's about going on a breath-taking journey across land and water, amid some of the UK's most spectacular and remote places, with the most amazing people. From rowing across lakes and camping in the wild, to lighting fires and building shelters, wilderness challenge will be at the heart of everything you do.
The Award lasts 19-days and is based from one of our 3 centres: Aberdovey (North Wales), Loch Eil (Scottish Highlands) and Ullswater (Lake District, England).
Whichever centre you choose the Skills for Life Award will leave you feeling more confident, more determined and better prepared for lifes challenges.
