Use your Pupil Equity Funding to drive attainment through adventure

Did you know you can use your Pupil Equity Funding to help fund an Outward Bound course for your school?

What is the Pupil Equity Funding?

Schools 2 Pupil Equity Funding is being provided as part of the £750m Attainment Scotland Fund, which is being invested over the current Parliamentary term to tackle the poverty related attainment gap. The funding can be used on courses that will help improve outcomes for children and young people who are affected by poverty.

The Scottish Attainment Challenge is about achieving equity in educational outcomes, with a focus on closing the poverty-related attainment gap. It focuses on accelerated targeted improvement activity in literacy, numeracy and health and well-being.

How can I spend my Pupil Equity Funding?

Funding should be focused on 'activities and interventions that will lead to improvements in literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing'. Schools need plans at the outset to evaluate the impact of the funding, and plans for the use of Pupil Equity Funding should be integrated with schools’ overall plans for improvement.

How can the Outward Bound Trust help with attainment?

Schools 11

An increasing number of schools we work in partnership with are using their Pupil Equity Funding to give pupils access to our tailored adventurous outdoor learning programmes. These are perfectly suited to promote equity and can help drive attainment.

Our residential courses develop pupils’ attitudes and skills, which have proven positive effects on self-confidence, emotional well-being and resilience. Evidence-based research also shows that our courses can help young people to become more confident, motivated and effective learners.

Is there any other funding available?

Yes. If you’re eligible for the Pupil Equity Funding, as an educational charity we can offer further financial assistance. A 5-day, fully inclusive course could cost as little as £210pp*. We also have excellent offers on specific weeks that are available in our centres, more details of these can be found on our offers page.

*Dependent on dates and is based on completion of a simple application form indicating the financial challenges faced by this group of young people.
