Adventure Days

11 - 17 years
From £30.00

At Outward Bound we never sit back and say we can’t. It's just not in our DNA.

Even though we can't offer our usual programmes, we are offering non-residential Adventure Days to all young people aged 11-17 years old, with priority to those young people eligible for free school meals.

Our Adventure Days take place at weekends at our centre in the Lake District, and during the October half-break at our centres in the Lake District, Scottish Highlands and North Wales.

If you're eligible for free school meals, your Adventure Day will be fully-funded and provided at no cost to you. However, we do need a £30 refundable deposit at the time of booking.

If you're not eligible for free school meals, we require a payment of £30 per Adventure Day.

What you'll be doing

If you know Outward Bound, these adventures are a little shorter than our usual programmes and don't include any overnight stays. But at their heart, our Day Adventures remain unique to what we do best: helping young people to believe in themselves.

A day of discovery. Time to be curious. Make new friends. Go outside and into the wild. Step outside your comfort zone and explore your talents. You'll take a step into finding out what you are truly capable of.

Our adventures are fun and challenging, making the most of the natural environment. The day may include a range of hiking, canoeing, gorge scrambling, abseiling, rock climbing, rafting, kayaking and wild swimming. The list is endless - and the group's appetite for adventure will help shape the day.

Away from the challenges of life, no two days at Outward Bound are the same. Each Adventure Day will be an adventure like no other.

Who are Adventure Days for?

Outward Bound Adventure Days are open to all young people aged 11-17 years old*, with priority to those young people eligible for free school meals.

Although we're giving priority to young people eligible for free school meals, our Outward Bound Adventures Days are open to all young people aged 11-17 years old - no matter their financial circumstances.

This is because we know there are many young people who will greatly benefit from our Adventure Days, not just those in financial need. Particularly young people who have had a challenging time during the lockdown.

*Unfortunately, we're unable to offer places to anyone requiring 1:1 support or not in mainstream education due to the limitations placed on us by the Coronavirus guidelines.

Types of adventures

Your Adventure Day will include a range of different challenging activities; these are dependent on a number of things including your chosen centre, the weather that day and your group's appetite for adventure.

Adventure Days may consist of one or more activities. To give you a flavour, adventures may involve:

  • Land-based activities, such as hill walking, rock climbing, abseiling and orienteering
  • Water-based activities, such as canoeing, kayaking, improvised rafting and wild swimming
  • Combined water-rock activities, such as ghyll scrambling/gorge walking or a lake rock scramble with cliff jumps

We just ask for you to come prepared for a fun and challenging day by keeping an open mind as to what exactly you will be doing. By the time you arrive your instructor will have considered the best options and planned a full day of adventure.
