Coronavirus Information

Updated 20 April 2020

It’s important for us to keep you updated on the current situation. Our priorities at Outward Bound are simple, we want to do everything we can to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak for our communities and the Outward Bound family, including the young people, schools, employers and donors we work with. We have had the privilege to be around for nearly 80 years and we want to get Outward Bound through this, so we’re still here for young people who need us.

As of 21 March 2020, in line with government advice we are not currently delivering courses at our centres and our office staff are working from home. As a result, we have taken the decision to furlough many of our team. We are not able to take phone calls on our main office lines. We will endeavour to provide a full service remotely via email (contact us). We appreciate your patience in these exceptional circumstances. We are monitoring government updates closely and as soon as we are able to, we will begin delivering our courses again.

In practical terms:

We are in touch with the schools, organisations, parents and groups who have a programme booked in the coming weeks and months.

We will continue to pay very close attention to Government, NHS, Public Health England, Health Protection Scotland and Public Health Wales advice, and are developing our response as the situation changes.

The challenges that young people face will not have disappeared but will have been made worse by this pandemic. And the need for Outward Bound; for space, freedom, adventure and fresh air will be there.

To enable those young people who need it most to attend Outward Bound in the future you can make a donation.

Looking to the future

Founded in the Second World War, Outward Bound has been there to help young people face challenge and manage uncertainty in their lives for almost 80 years. This is now needed more than ever before. We are determined to continue to do what we can to support the greater societal need and to protect Outward Bound and our wider family. As a charity our mission is to help young people defy their limitations – and when we come through this we will be ready to serve the thousands of young people who need us.

How you can help

There’s no doubt, as a charity COVID-19 will have a significant impact on Outward Bound. Many of you have asked how to help, and on this occasion it’s to make a donation to support young people attend Outward Bound in the future.
