Behavioural development open enrolment programmes

ALFED 20KbALFED Academy and The Outward Bound Trust have developed a suite of open enrolment programmes for apprentices, graduates and young leaders from across the aluminium industry.

Leadership Foundation Programme

A foundation programme suitable for graduates and young leaders who are already in a leadership role or are actively preparing for that next step in their career. The five-day residential programme will focus on:

Exploring and understanding different leadership approaches
Developing a breadth of leadership styles
Understanding the importance of varying style to suit both situational and team member needs
Awareness of personal strengths and potential and impact in the workplace
Exploring the importance of authenticity

Outcomes: By the end of the Leadership Foundation Programme, your early careers talent will have developed a toolbox of leadership techniques, enhanced their ability to motivate and engage colleagues in work based challenges and have a deeper understanding of their own personal strengths, future career preferences and development needs.

Apprentice Development Programme

A five-day residential designed to accelerate your apprentices’ awareness of the importance of workplace behaviours. During the week the apprentices’ will undertake a series of activities that will focus on specific behaviours listed in the apprenticeship standards and will provide them with first-hand experience of taking responsibility for self and others.

Outcomes: Your apprentices will develop increased self-awareness, improved communication skills, an understanding of problem solving methodologies, increased awareness of the importance of time management, will be better able to work within a team and will have had an introduction to project management skills.

John EC


John McCarthy is a Client Relationship Manager in the Early Careers Development team at The Outward Bound Trust. 

John's background in learning and development and his love of adventure enables him to work in partnership with his clients to create inspirational behavioural development programmes. He has worked closely with the ALFED Academy to create this suite of programmes. Each programme enables your early careers talent to develop transferable skills that benefit them at college, employment and in their future lives.
