Welcome to The Outward Bound Trust's runners resource area. We have designed this section with you in mind and we hope it is a useful tool to find information regarding the preparation for your run.

Taking part in any running event is a marathon and not a sprint (excuse the pun!) and we aim to make your life easier by guiding you through the 'ins and outs' of training and fundraising.

Thank you very much for taking up this challenge on behalf of The Outward Bound Trust. Your support means so much to us as it allows us to reach many more young people and to help them to learn and develop through adventures in the wild.

Whether you are a top athlete, or a fitness enthusiast, or just someone wanting to take on the challenge of the Marathon, there is almost nothing more important than taking care of your nutrition.  And that means starting now – not a few days before the event. 

You will be placing more and more stress on your body as your training regime intensifies.  This is not only because you will be burning more calories, but you will be using up more essential minerals and vitamins as you use your muscles and sweat.  

If you want to reach your maximum potential, and protect your health, all of your systems must be perfectly tuned.  Without the right foods, no amount of coaching or practice will push you to your best.  This means that you have to eat a variety of high quality, mineral and vitamin rich foods, all day and every day.  The nutrients that you need are proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins and water!

Fundraising is an important part of your running experience. To know that all the training you have done is going to help young people, is a powerful motivation.

Please think carefully about how you are going to reach your target. Our handy fundraising kit is available for download and has lots of tips and ideas about raising money. Also available to download is our great pub quiz questions which are invaluable if you want to organise quiz nights to raise money for The Outward Bound Trust.

Online donations

Online giving websites such as Virgin Money Giving are fantastic sites for any fundraiser. They allow you to collect donations online so you don't have to deal with all the paperwork and collecting in money.
