Is the Ultimate Expedition for me?
If you're up for a once in a lifetime challenge, the Ultimate is for you. It's an incredible opportunity to explore some of the wildest places in the UK, spending every night camping out under the stars. You'll come away with life-long skills, new friends and an unbeatable sense of achievement.
As you might expect, the Ultimate is the most challenging Outward Bound adventure. You'll be spending your days out in the mountains or on water, covering some pretty difficult terrain and carrying your own fully packed rucksack. It's therefore advisable that you have a good level of fitness to take part. Most important of all, you should arrive with a positive outlook and plenty of enthusiasm! Previous experience of hill walking and camping would be a bonus. For more tips on getting fit for your adventure, see our main FAQs.
What is included in the price?
The course is all inclusive. We provide all specialist equipment including waterproofs and boots, as well as food, accommodation, insurance and a coach transfer service. You only need to bring a small amount of personal spending money, around £10-15 per week plus a £10 refundable deposit for equipment.
What will I be eating?
On expedition food needs to be lightweight. We have dehydrated food packs for breakfast and dinner; breakfast may be porridge or packet beans on toast; dinner maybe a curry or pasta in sauce. Lunch is full of handy snacks, which you can nibble on throughout the day. We cater for vegetarians and all diets [please let us know if you require a special diet at least 2 weeks in advance].
Are there any toilets or showers?
No, this is a wilderness adventure! Although there will be opportunities for dips in streams. You'll be able to have a proper shower when you return to the centre at the end of the course. It's worth packing a set of clean clothes for your journey home.
What weather can we expect?
Although the course takes place in summer, it is based predominantly in mountainous areas where weather can be unpredictable. At times a sense of humour will be required!
