Serious Adventure - WATER (15-19)
If you prefer your adventures to come with a sea view, then you're in for a treat.
Get ready to explore some of Scotland's most rugged and remote islands as you paddle through quiet lagoons and discover white sandy shores.
You'll begin by learning the basics of kayaking and canoeing and will quickly move out into open water, where you'll put your new skills into action.
The highlight of the week comes with an overnight expedition, where you spend the day touring the Scottish coastline and wildlife spotting from your canoe and pass the night camping out under the stars.
You’ll return to dry land with an unbelievable sense of achievement, impressive new paddling skills, incredible memories and great new friends.
What time does the course start and finish?
Courses start at 5.30pm on your chosen course date and finish after breakfast at 9.00am.
What is included in the price?
As part of our all-inclusive package, we offer a free coach transfer to and from central transport hubs. Please call your centre to inform them of your arrival and departure times. We can arrange drop offs at a local train or bus station, or you are welcome to be picked up by parents/guardians at the centre. You are recommended to book your transport as close to start and finish times as possible.
We also provide all specialist equipment including waterproofs, paddles and boots, as well as food, accommodation and insurance. Meals include cooked breakfasts, packed lunches and evening meals. We cater for all diets [please inform the centre at least two weeks before arrival] and a vegetarian option is always available. You only need to bring a small amount of personal spending money, as there’s not much time to shop while you’re here! Each centre has a small shop selling snacks, toiletries and souvenirs. The shops do not sell cigarettes or alcohol.
Is Serious Adventure - Water for me?
You don’t have to be super fit to take part in Serious Adventure - Water, but the days are packed with activity and will be physically challenging. You don’t need to have any canoeing or kayaking experience to take part, however the adventure is also suitable to those who have had some
previous exposure to paddling. Therefore, just an average level of fitness and plenty of enthusiasm and determination to take on new challenges is all that is needed. You should also be open to new experiences and able to get along with other young people from a variety of backgrounds.
What will I get out of it?
Besides some pretty impressive water skills, you’ll also learn about leadership, working in a team and communication - the sort of stuff that looks great on a CV or college application. You’ll meet people from all over the world to continue your paddling adventures with! Best of all, you’ll have a fantastic sense of achievement, having conquered a brand new challenge.
What about smoking?
Participants under 16 are not permitted to smoke. We strongly discourage smoking. If you must smoke, your instructor will show you a designated smoking area. Smoking is not permitted on activities or on expedition. In addition consumption of alcohol is banned at all centres.
What weather can we expect?
Although the course takes place in summer, it is based predominantly in mountainous areas where weather can be unpredictable. At times a sense of humour will be required!
What are the centres like?
You'll be staying in single sex dorms with 6-10 people of your own age. Most dorms also have en-suite facilities. For more venue information and photographs of our centres, visit the locations section of our website.
