beachChairman of Trustees The Duke of York, KG

The Duke of York succeeded The Duke of Edinburgh as our Chairman of Trustees in 1999. Today, we're one of the organisations to which The Duke devotes much of his time.

"The aim of Outward Bound is to instil qualities of leadership in young people so that the challenges they will face in everyday life are not insurmountable.

We help young people to learn about communications, teamwork, leadership and courage, and to take responsibility for their own actions. Last year, over 26,000 young people went on an Outward Bound course, of which a third were financially supported. I am grateful to those people, over the year, who have very generously given of their money, their time and their hard work: our Patron, The Duke of Edinburgh; our corporate and personal supporters; the Outward Bound Associations; our Trustees; and all those who work within The Trust – without whom our work would not be possible."
