Sir Chris Bonington CVO, CBE 

Sir Chris Bonington CVO, CBE

One of Britain's best-known mountaineers, Sir Chris Bonington has led and been on 19 Himalayan expeditions, including four to Everest and has made many first ascents in The Alps and greater ranges of the world. He has published 14 books and has presented/appeared in many relevant television programmes.  Sir Chris was a Trustee from 1997 and appointed Deputy Patron in 2009.

The Lord Kirkham CVO

Lord Graham Kirkham founded DFS Furniture Company plc in 1969 and it now has 75 stores nationwide. Graham was honoured with a Knighthood in 1995 and was elevated to the peerage in 1999. He received the CVO in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2001. He became a Trustee in 1995.

Ian Ashman 

Ian Ashman

Ian Ashman has been Principal of Hackney Community College since 2007. Under his leadership, the college has received national recognition for its involvement in the London 2012 Olympic Games. He is currently working with large and small technology companies, creating new apprenticeship schemes to help bridge the skills gap of London’s Tech City. Ian was appointed a Trustee of The Trust in 2013.

 Rod Carr CBE

Rod Carr CBE

Chief instructor at the National Sailing Centre in Cowes in 1975. The Royal Yachting Association in the early 80s gave him the opportunity to team coach for the Los Angeles, Seoul and Barcelona Olympic Games. Awarded a CBE for services to sailing in 2005. He is a board member for Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and was appointed a Trustee in 2009.

 Professor Nicholas Gair

Professor Nicholas Gair

Nick is the Chief Executive of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain. He's also known for his work in Outdoor Leadership and published many papers and articles in the educational press. Nick is a Freeman of the Company of Educators, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and Member of the College of Teachers. Appointed a Trustee in 2013.

 Ian Gowrie-Smith

Ian Gowrie-Smith

Ian's business career has focused on investing in opportunities in the private sector and then taking them to the public markets. He's best known for having founded and chaired two listed companies in the pharmaceutical sector, Medeva PLC and Skyepharma PLC.  More recently his focus has returned to the mining, oil and gas sectors, with exploration and production. Appointed a Trustee in 2007.

 Philippa Kramer

Phillippa Kramer

HR director at global business AkzoNobel, leading a successful team of 50 HR professionals. Building up a wealth of HR experience over the past 16 years, her previous posts include BAE Systems and Axon Solutions. AkzoNobel continue to work in close partnership with The Trust to deliver leadership programmes and initiatives for their employees. Appointed a Trustee in December 2013.

 Dame Louise Makin

Dame Louise Makin

Louise joined BTG as Chief Executive Officer in October 2004 and has led the transformation of BTG from an IP commercialisation business into an international specialist healthcare company. Louise has an MBA, and holds an MA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge, and is non-executive director of Intertek Group plc.  Appointed a Trustee of The Trust in 2011.

 Colin Maund

Colin Maund

Colin graduated from the London School of Economics. Chairman of Achilles Group, he set up the company in the UK in 1993 and was responsible for its international growth into 26 countries. He has been actively involved in The Trust of which Achilles is a Patron Company Member. He was awarded UK Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 for IT Services. Appointed a Trustee in March 2012.

 Charles Philipps

Charles Philipps

Charles Philipps trained as a chartered accountant and then moved into investment banking. He was instrumental in the formation of Amlin plc, a publicly listed insurance group, of which he has been Chief Executive since 1999.  He has served on the Council of Lloyd's and was President of the Insurance Institute of London.  He was appointed a Trustee of The Trust in December 2010. 

 Caroline Sellar

Caroline Sellar

Operations Director for Sellar Property Group since 2008, Caroline was instrumental in facilitating the smooth operation of the high profile The Descent of The Shard event in 2012, raising over £2,000,000 for The Trust. A business fashion and law graduate and former fashion retail owner, she has over 15 years' experience within retail, sales and marketing. Appointed a Trustee of The Trust in 2013.

 Dick Watson

Dick Watson

In 1971 Dick joined Terry Bramall at Bramall & Ogden and went to form Keepmoat in 1986. It became one of the UK's leading regeneration and social housing specialists.  Dick remained with Keepmoat for 36 years, retiring from the company in 2007. He is the Vice Chairman of Doncaster Rovers Football Club. Dick was appointed a Trustee in 2008.

Guy Williams

Guy was appointed Managing Director Northern Europe for global business AkzoNobel in 2011. In 2013, he was given responsibility for the Global Sales Excellence function to enable AkzoNobel to strategically develop and drive a clear sales and category management strategy. Prior to joining AkzoNobel Guy held a number of roles across major retailers. Appointed a Trustee in 2014.
